Broadreach staff member Dave Carpenter has an unquenchable thirst for travel and adventure. He has traveled the world over, on trips most people only dream about. Until recently, Dave had visited every continent but one - Antarctica. Not to leave this icy part of the world out, Dave managed to find a job working for the winter at the McMurdo Station in Antarctica. Dave is a great storyteller and photographer. He is sharing his experiences on-line at his website http://davecarpenter.tripod.com/ . Check it out!

Our already top-notch Marine Biology Accredited Program just got better! Broadreach received the exciting news this winter that we can relocate the Marine Biology program to The Island School on Cape Eleuthera in the Bahamas. This is fantastic, as the Island School has everything that our facility on Turks and Caicos had to offer, plus so much more. Marine Biology Accredited is going to be a blast this summer! To find out more about the Island School and their semester programs, go to their site at http://www.islandschool.org/.

Drs. Phil and Julia Davies -- MBA Program Directors for summers '98 and '99 -- have put together a gorgeous book on the Turks and Caicos Islands. Anyone interested in these islands will love the book - "Turks and Caicos Islands - Beautiful by Nature". Preview and order the publication on-line at http://www.beautifulbynature.co.uk/.

Chris Palma has also put together a great site for the HFS 1999 crew -- The "Honduras Hub". There are great pictures, and bulletin board, news and more. Check out his site at http://members.tripod.com/crp724/index.htm.

To see a lots of great photos from the Underwater Discoveries Advanced trip (UDA14) from 1998, check out this great website put up by one of the participants: http://www.execpc.com/~nathans/index.html.

The Underwater Discoveries Advanced (UDA24) 1998 picture page put up by one of the program's participants can be found at http://members.aol.com/crp724/broadreach.htm. This page not only features cool pictures, but music and animation as well.

The Broadreach Foundation extends scholarships to deserving teens who would greatly benefit from and contribute to a summer program, but lack the financial means to participate. Check out the Foundation on-line at http://www.broadreach.org.

On Broadreach's Underwater Discoveries program, we dive some great sites on the island of St Eustatius with guides from the local dive shop, Golden Rock Dive Center. Also known as "Statia", this island is the historical gem of the Caribbean, once one of the key trading ports of the 17th century. Today visitors will find artifacts of days gone past both above and below the sea in one of the most diverse marine ecosystems in the Caribbean. "Statia" boasts not only great historical shipwrecks, but also pristine coral reefs, walls, and modern shipwrecks. To find out more about diving Statia, check out the site for the Golden Rock Dive Center, http://www.goldenrockdive.com, or give them a call at 011-599-318-2964 or 1-800-311-6658.

We use Scubapro gear on all of our programs because of the high performance and quality of their gear. We highly recommend Scubapro equipment to all of our participants. You can find out more about Scubapro on-line at their website http://www.scubapro.com.

Diver's Alert Network (DAN) is recreational diving's safety and health organization, supported by the world's largest association of SCUBA divers. DAN is a non-profit organization that offers divers many services, and it is the leading authority and research center for sport diving medical issues. Broadreach is proud to be one of the few organizations to be awarded the DAN Partners in Dive Safety distinction. To check out DAN's website click on http://www.diversalertnetwork.org.

On every Broadreach program, at least one staff member has completed Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training. Many Broadreach leaders complete their WFR training with Wilderness Medical Associates, one of the world's leaders in wilderness medical training. Established in the late 1970s, they now teach wilderness medicine training programs across the United States and around the world.
